The bridegroom is a metaphor used in the Bible describing the relationship between God and the devotee. I love the metaphor for many reasons; firstly, it captures the intense and all consuming kind of love that is God's love. It is a passionate love, a mutual yearning that ultimately consummates in an ecstatic Union. Secondly, this Union describes the glorious reality of our very life right now - we (the bride) are ultimately one with The Eternal Bridegroom, and this Union is a celebration of oneness that never began and lasts forever.
